Founded by system administrators and DevOps engineers who were frustrated by commercial, pay-to-play hosting reviews.
Our Core Mission
HostRanker was built on a simple premise: web hosting reviews should be backed by reproducible benchmark data, not marketing affiliate payouts.
Almost every hosting review portal on the web ranks providers based on who pays the highest affiliate bounty. We reject this practice entirely. Our editorial rankings are driven by continuous automated testing: Time-to-First-Byte (TTFB), Geekbench 6 multi-core performance, random 4K FIO disk IOPS, and real uptime tracking.
How We Test & Score Every Host
Anonymous Deployments
We purchase servers with standard commercial credit cards under pseudonyms. We never inform providers that their nodes are under test, preventing them from assigning our accounts to low-density VIP hypervisors.
Standardized Ubuntu 24.04 Images
Every virtual machine runs an identical distribution of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with default kernel parameters. We disable swap during tests to ensure disk benchmarks and memory bandwidth are strictly isolated.
Multi-Regional TTFB Telemetry
Using a network of synthetic monitoring probes in North America, Western Europe, and Asia, we fire automated HTTP requests every 5 minutes to measure true edge latency and network jitter.
Stress-Testing Support
We submit unscripted technical support tickets outside standard business hours (e.g. 2:00 AM on Sunday) asking deep systems questions about firewall rules, memory locks, and kernel modules to evaluate true agent competence.
Editorial Independence Guarantee
While HostRanker participates in affiliate programs that generate revenue when users click through to certain hosting providers, our commercial team has zero influence over lab benchmark rankings.
What we do not do
We do not accept payment for a score, a rank or a podium position. We do not publish reviews based on a provider press release. We do not hide negative benchmark results, and we do not remove a review because a provider cancels an affiliate programme. Sponsored units are labelled separately and excluded from rankings.
How HostRanker is funded
The lab is funded by affiliate commissions on click-through purchases and by clearly labelled sponsored placements. Both are disclosed on every page. This revenue covers anonymous server purchases, benchmark hardware, monitoring probes and editorial time, which is why the reviews remain free to read.
